Robyn Turns 30 - Finally!

We had such a great time celebrating Robyn's 30th birthday last weekend. Check out the other blogs as well if you desire a more well rounded party description.

We spent the night at the JW Marriot and had dinner at Bennihana.

Robyn's birthday candle

The next morning we hung out by the pool. Here's the view from our room, which strangely enough, was the same room we had last year. If you look closely, you can spot Robyn and Heather lounging while Jen and I fetched bagels.

Somebody turn 30 again next year, kay?

Whew!

If you thought THIS was tough...

We've been temporarily mourning the loss of our beloved TV. He blew out his lamp on Friday and a part of me too has gone dark ever since. Thank goodness I'm only missing re-runs of Scrubs that I've already seen. Imagine if this happened when the new season of The Office was beginning!

Well, add that and Kate's quarantine, which was compounded by the car seat being run through the wash, hereby eliminating any fresh air today and you've got a looooooong day at home.

THEN! Everything changed. My dad came to pick up the car to get it cleaned from the Puke Episode of Tuesday Night and mentioned that he had a spare 13 inch tv in his garage!!!

Do ya think we're excited?

Kate? Are you excited?

Sorry, but she can't hear you over the din of Dragon Tales.

Also, the new part came for TV today and Josh is fixing him as we speak. Seriously, I've got it pretty good over here, folks.

Parent Night At The Seed

Oh, wait... we didn't go...

Her carseat was in need of a good cleaning, anyway.

For those of you who haven't gakked on your keyboard by now... We had Parent Night at preschool tonight and since Josh was at a meeting, I was flying solo. Kate had complained of a tummy ache, but I really didn't think it would come to this. She and I headed out for the half hour drive to school and this happened about one minute before we got there.

Kate: "My tummy hurts..."

Me: "Maybe we should just turn around an..."

Kate: *various garbled liquidy noises* "I told you so."

The sad part was that we were now thirty minutes away from home and a really soapy bath. My sweet girl just sat there without crying or complaining all the way back. I call it "flexible," but some other people may call it "weird."

Me: "Do you feel better now?"

Kate: "I will when I get out of this mess."

Me: "I'm so sorry."

Kate: "You didn't do anything."

We rode back with the windows down, obviously.

Kate: "I had a lot of food in my belly... pizza, green beans, tomatoes..."

Well, she's quarantined tomorrow, although I think it probably was just something that didn't agree with her. The child can puke on command.

Kate: "Remember when I throwed up on my bed? And in the pool?"

Me: "Yep."

Gym Rat

Gym has started for Kate again this fall...

...without Maryn *sniff sniff*

Since she isn't four yet, the class she should be in is the one she took in the spring. So, I did what, as a former teacher, I swore I would never do.

I asked if she could test into the Mini-Flips - aka - the GIFTED CLASS. I'm embarrassed for myself, really. However, Miss Lisa was utterly appalled at the idea of my Future Olympian being in that remedial class and promptly signed us up for Monday afternoons. She also said something about her being jealous of Kate's calves.

Her new teacher is Miss Kirsten. When I asked Kate if she remembered her new teacher's name, she thought for a minute. "Miss Karoline?"

Josh DVR'd competitive gymnastics for her and she has FALLEN MADLY IN LOVE. We have seen "floor routines" aplenty, let me tell you.

Don't worry, we're not joining any private gym or postponing adolescence...yet.

Hawaii 5-0

My cousin Dave turned the big 50 this month and we had a big 'ol party to celebrate. Since almost the entire family was in town, we decided to have new family pictures taken as well. I had so many pictures from the weekend, I decided to package them neatly for you in a slideshow.

The first few are from the kids getting pre-picture haircuts at Lollilocks. Thursday night was a first birthday party for Destin (Dave and Terry's grandson) at Peter Pipers. We took over the whole place.

Destin, the birthday boy

The next few are from the blazing hot photo session at ASU West

We headed to the mall afterwards to keep our hair from catching fire and then to Terry's for naps. The party was in full pre-luau mode, so I pitched in by skewering fruit and artfully placing groups of balloons. It totally couldn't have been pulled off without me. Hah.

The aloha spirit was alive and well. Happy Birthday, Dave!
