You Take The Good, You Take The Bad...

Miles has had one heck of a birthday week - nobody around here just gets one day of fun. On his actual birthday, he woke up with a mysterious rash all over his cute body and we couldn't figure what it was - chicken pox? We ended up not cancelling the party, but I warned all partygoers that they were about to enter a hot zone. We had one nurse tell us it was a delayed reaction to the amoxicillin that he was on for his ear infection, but then the next morning he had a 101 temperature and more crust in his ear. Monday we headed back to the doctor and he's now on a different type of antibiotic for the ear that hasn't healed (still not sure about the rash). The fever is persistant and hit 103.9 last night and he is really congested, but he is mostly his very happy self. We go back in tomorrow if he still has a fever, so please pray that it breaks and that his ear heals up. I'll have his party pictures up soon, but since this was such a downer post, I thought this might cheer you up:

Miles Turns One

One year ago (Saturday - I'm late posting...) I was 10 days past my due date and there were no beds available at the hospital, so I was in the process of waiting it out ever so (not) gracefully. Finally, at an ultrasound, they discovered that Miles was in the ten pound range and decided that, yes, they would attempt to remove him. However, thinking he was at least 10.5 and maybe 11 lbs, a c-section was scheduled.

At 5:03 pm on February 24th, Miles Daniel was born weighing a slight 9lbs 10 oz.
I knew him from the moment I saw him and fell completely in love.

Here are a few shots of his first year...

I love that God surprised us with him. Happy Birthday, Buddy.

I Think I May Be "Old"

Let me just preface this by saying that even though I am fully aware of my age, I just don't really feel 31. Hence the following short saga:

Knock, Knock

Me: "Who's that?"

Josh: mouthfull of Chipotle (burrito bol), so *shrug*

I opened the door to find two teenage girls in halter tops - it's freezing outside today, so that's normal - and one of the girls introduced herself as our next door neighbor.

Me: trying to be really cool and also very aware of my unwashed hair - "Hi."

Jen/Jennifer/Jenny?: "Hi, I'm having a get together at my house tonight..."

Me: "She's having a party? And inviting me? What do I say? I can't go, but what do I tell her? Is this some sort of house warming? Are all the neighbors invited or just the cool ones?"

JJJ: "... so it might get kind of loud, but just so you know, we aren't doing anything bad, it's just that some of my friends have parties and the cops get called, so if it gets toooo loud, just come over or I'll give you my number and you can call..."

Me: "Recover! Don't look confused or disappointed!" (Aloud) "Oh, that's cool. Don't worry about it. If you invite me, then I won't tell. Harr Harr."

And then more stupid things came out of my mouth, but in truth, I have blocked them from my memory.

JJJ: *fake laugh*

Me: "Well, have fun tonight. I'll just come over if it gets too out of control." (I just couldn't let it go...)

So, really, what this proves is that the person who used to wear colored slacks and pumps to match, still exists deep inside and at times, scratches and claws her way to the surface, only to face humiliation and then share it with the Internet.

Neat.

1st Haircut

Sweet Miles got his first haircut this week. He had a pretty bad case of "mullet-itis."

He was a bit freaked out at first, but settled in well when the nice haircut lady gave him her key card with a rubber band bracelet thing like Mommy's. He loves chewing on mine...that I got at ASU while I was going there. Josh abhors it.

"Really, I can have it? I'm not sure you understand that I eat these..."

"Ok..."

"Mmmwhahhmmm"

"Smeshsmoshsmmm"

*various sucking and slurping sounds*

"What's up?"

Miles, too, is now all business.

1st Annual Bunco Golf Tournament

Heather hosted Golf Bunco this month and I'm pretty sure that a fair amount of the guys were consulted about clothing choices. Word to the unwise: Your husband's glove really stinks, so don't wear it before you eat dinner.

The Hostess Choice prize went to whoever putted closest to the "hole." Here's Robyn lining up her shot.

Heather was the only one to actually get on the green, so she busted out the tape measure to declare the winner. It wasn't Robyn.

It might have been this one.

Takin' A Walk On The Wild Side

The four of us usually take a walk to the park after Josh gets home from work. The weather is perfect right now and it's so nice to just be outside. Together.

Seeing that Miles refuses to even entertain the idea of walking on his own, he spends his time in my arms or eating the ruffage found on the playground floor. There is one thing, however, he loves about the park...

My three favorite people

A Little Vacation And A Lot Of Reality

Josh and I snuck off to Gainey Ranch on Wednesday and spent two glorious days eating, sleeping, reading celebrity magazines (me), laying out (gotta love Arizona), getting a massage (me, again) and not asking ANYBODY if they had to go potty. Glorious, I tell ya. However, I have only one picture to share because...

a) it was a mysterious weekend and pictures would trivialize it - OR -

b) my camera battery died the very second a nice old man was trying to take our picture

So, here's the view from our room:

Also, in recent news, Miles has been really unhappy lately and we have been (literally, at times) banging our collective heads against the wall trying to figure it out. He did have that low grade fever last week... and the crusty junk in his ear...well, a trip to the pediatrician today confirmed what most of you probably figured out just by reading this.

DOUBLE EAR INFECTION!

Yummy. I win Best Mommy Detection Skills Award for this month. Hands Down.

Crap. Yep, I said it.

Cousin Julia's Wedding

Josh's cousin Julia got married last Saturday and Kate got all dressed up and came along. She loved every minute of it, but her very favorite was the dancing. She was first on the floor and had to be literally pulled off it at the end. She met a nice girl named Gianna who is now her "best friend." For this week, anyway.

G-O, Let Me Hear You Say Go!

Kate, Amelia and Madison are now taking a Cheerleading class on Wednesdays. Last week it was raining, so we all got to stay in the room and watch. Enjoy!

I'd Like To Interrupt This Blog For A Very Important Announcement

We had a full moon here in Chandler today! I repeat, full moon!

I wanted a sign that said, "No! We're not in training anymore, people! She's done! She was just having too much fun to stop and pee in an actual toilet! I'd like to say I've done it before myself. Go about your business."
However, if it were someone else's kiddo running around commando, I'd laugh and point too.

Katie was a true friend, laughing and taking pictures.

This all happened, by the way, at the play area, so we had to walk on over to The Children's Place to get new unders all naked-like. I do have spare unders in my car, but this mall is ridiculous and it took four elevator rides to get back to it later.

"Kate has no pants on!" - Scotty

Buying new unders and a $4 pair of pants. It was actually a great deal...

Honestly, this is what her pants looked like. Not sure you needed to see that.
